Terms of Service

Last updated: September 3, 2026

This draft was generated from a direct review of the Mahjong Caddie (iOS and Android) and Mahjong Keeper (backend) source code. This document avoids making legal promises the current implementation doesn’t actually support.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Mahjong Caddie (“the app,” “Caddie”) and any connected Mahjong Keeper account services, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

These Terms of Service are entered into between you and Limit Cycle Entertainment Systems LLC, a company operating in California, United States.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the app. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the app only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

3. Accounts

  • Creating a Mahjong Keeper account is optional; most core scoring/timer/local-game features of Caddie work fully without one.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Account settings → “Delete Account and Keeper Data”). See the Privacy Policy §5 for exactly what is and isn’t removed.
  • Password recovery is handled by our authentication provider via your registered email address; we cannot recover a password we never had access to.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the app to harass, abuse, or impersonate other players
  • Attempt to circumvent tournament scoring rules or falsify game results submitted for official tournament records
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt unauthorized access to Keeper’s backend services, including attempting to bypass access controls
  • Use the app’s Bluetooth/local-network table-connection features to transmit anything other than legitimate game data
  • Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws or regulations.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the app except where such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law.
  • Attempt to probe, scan, or test the security or vulnerability of the app or its services without authorization.
  • Use bots, scripts, automated tools, or other means to scrape, harvest, or collect data from Keeper or other services except through officially provided interfaces.
  • Upload or transmit malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
  • Interfere with the normal operation of the app or other users’ ability to use the services.
  • Use the app in a manner that infringes the intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity.
  • Attempt to access accounts, data, or services that you are not authorized to access.

5. User Content

“User content” in Caddie is limited to: your player profile fields (name, display name, city/state/country) and gameplay data (scores, hand records) you generate through normal play. Caddie does not currently support free-text posts, images, or other user-generated content beyond profile fields and structured game data.

  • You retain ownership of your player profile information.
  • By participating in a club tournament and allowing your results to be published, you authorize the hosting club and Keeper to display your name and results as part of the tournament’s permanent public record (see §7 and Privacy Policy §2.4).

6. Tournament Participation

  • Tournaments are organized independently by clubs using the Mahjong Boss organizer software; Caddie is the player-facing companion app used to connect to and participate in them.
  • Once a tournament result is published by the organizing club, it becomes part of a permanent historical record and is not removed even if you later delete your account, though your account will no longer be linked to it (see Privacy Policy §2.4, §5, §15).
  • Tournament organizers are responsible for administering their events, including interpreting tournament rules, resolving scoring disputes, and determining final standings.
  • Each club may establish additional tournament-specific rules. By participating in a tournament, you agree to comply with both these Terms and the rules established by the organizing club.
  • If a conflict exists between these Terms and a tournament’s specific rules, the tournament-specific rules govern the administration of that tournament, while these Terms continue to govern your use of Mahjong Caddie, Mahjong Boss, and Mahjong Keeper.
  • Questions or disputes regarding tournament results should be directed to the organizing club. Platform administrators may correct technical errors affecting recorded results but are not responsible for overturning rulings made by tournament organizers except where required by law.

7. Rankings and Statistics

  • Global and club rankings, ratings (Glicko-based), and related statistics are calculated automatically from submitted game results and displayed publicly to other users if you participate in ranked play or club leaderboards.
  • Rankings, ratings, and statistics are provided on a best-effort basis and may be corrected or recalculated if game results are corrected, technical errors are identified, or rating algorithms are updated.
  • If you believe a ranking or rating is inaccurate due to an incorrect game result or technical error, you should first contact the tournament organizer or club responsible for the event. Platform administrators may investigate and correct verified errors where appropriate.
  • The platform reserves the right to recalculate rankings, ratings, and statistics at any time to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the ranking system.

8. Purchases

  • Event tickets, club supporter subscriptions, and donations are purchased through Stripe Checkout, opened in your device’s web browser from within the app. Caddie itself does not process payments and never receives your card details (see Privacy Policy §2.10).
  • Prices, fees, and what’s included with a ticket or subscription are set by the individual club hosting the event or offering the subscription, not by us directly, though a platform service fee may apply on top of the club’s price.
  • Any applicable platform service fee will be disclosed to you before you complete your purchase. The total amount charged will be displayed during the Stripe Checkout process before payment is submitted.

9. Subscription Terms

Club “Supporter” subscriptions are recurring payments processed via Stripe, tied to the specific club you subscribe to (not a platform-wide subscription).

  • Supporter subscriptions may be offered on a monthly or annual billing cycle, as determined by the organizing club.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation prevents future renewal charges but does not refund the current billing period unless required by applicable law or the club’s refund policy.
  • Unless otherwise stated, subscription benefits remain available until the end of the current paid billing period after cancellation.
  • Renewal charges are processed using the payment method associated with your Stripe Checkout purchase.

10. Refund Policy

  • Refund eligibility is determined by the club or organizer hosting the event or offering the subscription. Refund policies may vary between clubs, events, and ticket types.
  • The applicable refund policy will be displayed as part of the purchase process before you complete your transaction.
  • Requests for refunds should be directed to the organizing club in accordance with its published refund policy.
  • Where a refund is approved, it will be processed through Stripe using the original payment method. Processing times may vary depending on your payment provider.
  • If you initiate a chargeback or payment dispute with your payment provider, we may suspend or restrict access to affected tickets, subscriptions, or related services while the dispute is being resolved.
  • Nothing in this section limits any rights you may have under applicable consumer protection laws.

11. Intellectual Property

  • The Caddie app, its design, and its software are owned by Limit Cycle Entertinment Systems, a company operating in California, United States and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
  • The Zung Jung Mahjong scoring rules implemented by the app are based on the published Zung Jung Mahjong rules developed by Alan Kwan. Mahjong Caddie is an independent software implementation of those rules. References to the Zung Jung Movement within the app are provided for informational purposes and do not imply ownership of the underlying rules or any affiliation beyond that expressly stated.
  • You retain ownership of your own profile content as described in §5.

12. Termination

  • You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time (§3).
  • We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent or abusive activity, interfere with the operation or security of the platform, or use the services in a manner that may harm other users, clubs, or the platform.
  • Where practical, we may provide notice of a suspension or termination and an opportunity to resolve the issue before permanently terminating an account. However, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate an account immediately where necessary to protect the platform, its users, or comply with legal obligations.
  • If your account is terminated, you may lose access to your account, club memberships, subscriptions, badges, and other platform features associated with that account.
  • Tournament results and historical records that were published before termination will generally remain as part of the permanent historical record, although your account may no longer be associated with those records as described elsewhere in these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
  • Termination of your account does not affect any rights or obligations that accrued before the termination date.

13. Disclaimer of Warranties

The app and related services are provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

We do not warrant that:

  • The app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.
  • Camera-based tile recognition, scoring assistance, or other automated features will always produce accurate results.
  • Manually entered game information, tournament results, or statistics submitted by users or organizers are free from error.
  • Rankings, ratings, badges, or statistics will always be complete, accurate, or available.
  • Third-party clubs, tournament organizers, or other users will act fairly, accurately, or in accordance with applicable tournament rules.

Mahjong Caddie is an aid for scoring, tournament participation, and record keeping. It does not deal tiles, determine legal moves, or officiate live gameplay. Players and tournament organizers remain responsible for verifying scores, game results, and rule interpretations before results are finalized.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, all implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, are disclaimed.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or business interruption arising out of or relating to your use of the app or related services.

We are not responsible for:

  • Decisions made by tournament organizers, including rulings, disqualifications, standings, prize distribution, or interpretation of tournament rules.
  • Disputes between players and clubs regarding tournament participation, refunds, prizes, memberships, or other club-operated activities.
  • Errors in manually entered game data or tournament submissions provided by users or organizers.
  • Temporary interruptions, delays, or failures of the app or connected services.

Mahjong Boss and Caddie provide software and payment facilitation tools. Except as expressly stated, we are not a party to the agreement between a player and a club regarding participation in an event, and responsibility for operating tournaments rests with the organizing club.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the app or these Terms shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us directly for the applicable service during the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) US$100.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

15. Governing Law

These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the app shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.

Any legal action or proceeding arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

16. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services, applicable laws, or business practices.

If we make material changes, we will provide notice by updating the Terms within the app, posting the revised Terms on our website, or by other reasonable means. The “Last Updated” date at the top of these Terms will indicate when changes became effective.

By continuing to use the app or related services after the updated Terms become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the app and, if applicable, delete your account.
